Melissa's Bio

Hi! My name is Melissa Fagersten. Welcome to Coastal Grandma Style!

A little about me... I've been married to my high school sweetheart for nearly 25 years. We have 3 daughters, aged 23, 19 and 15 (it's been a ride!)

I founded a non profit 12 years ago with the mission to empower young girls by building their confidence, competence and decision making skills. I learned through that experience that you will never truly work a day in your life if you love what you do. Through the years, I've made a mental list I refer to as "next stage stuff" and I am finally able to start checking things off. Getting older isn't so bad!

From Martha's Vineyard, St John, The Jersey Shore and to my home on Lake Mohawk, I have always found the best version of myself when I am at the coast.

I met Carrie (aka Carrie Shore) in 2010 on the beach in Seaside Park, New Jersey. Our daughters met building sand castles and our friendship grew from there. Carrie is a phenomenal cook, designer, gardener, a creative, and she has a knack for discovering life's simple pleasures. Together, we have discovered our mutual love if all things coastal and now we are ready to share it with you.

Carrie's Bio

Hi! My name is Carrie Sheehan. Welcome to Coastal Grandma Style! Here's my story, in a nutshell (or clamshell). I met my husband on a blind date back in 1993. We married in 1996 and have raised 3 beautiful daughters (24, 22, and 17).

I'm a trained Registered Nurse, I worked over 20 years in the nursing profession. I started to grow tired of the long, arduous shifts, weekend and holiday commitments, and back in 2014 decided to start my own creative business. I guess you could say I'm am entrepreneur,

Brownies & Ginger is now my full time gig and I couldn't be happier being my own boss and doing what I love. I love nursing too, just in a different way.

My love of the coast started at a young age with family vacations at the Jersey Shore. When I reached my teens, my summers were spent on our family's boat at the Jersey Shore, I have very fond memories of those days gone by. In 2003, my husband and I purchased our first summer home on the Jersey Shore. We upgraded to a vintage beach bungalow in 2012 and it has been a labor of love restoring it to it's original glory these past 10 years. It's truly a family heirloom.

I met Melissa on the beach, our 2 daughters starting playing together in the sand and the rest is history. She is one of my dearest friends, and our girls are great friends to this day as well. Melissa is a powerhouse, fiercely strong and empowering. She is a loyal friend and confidant.

She is a go-getter, a volunteer and always eager to help and have your back. Everyone should have a Melissa, your life will be better for it!
